In terms of carbon dating, the Bamboo Steamers are relative newcomers. In the rock music game, these guys are considered ancient. Originally formed back in the early 80’s in Springfield, Mass., the on-and-off again quasi-surf/garage band has regrouped numerous times in the past couple of decades. What’s most remarkable about the Bamboo Steamers is that their line-up has remained essentially unchanged since its inception. Band founder and principal songwriter, Don Singleman along with guitarist Jerry O’Hare, bassist Jimmy Gibbs and drummer Frank Marsh have perfected their craft long after most men their age are in bed by 9 p.m. While their gigs are infrequent, they continue to return to the Pioneer Valley and re-kindle nostalgic memories of a time when the Pajama Slave Dancers, Deep Wound and Eighth Route Army ruled the roost. Steam on!
